Review a Security Camera Event
Design an event-review flow that helps a resident verify what happened, preserve relevant evidence, and avoid unnecessary sharing.
The brief
Understand the problem
Background
Camera alerts can be wrong, fragmented across devices, or too vague to act on. Residents need temporal context and careful sharing controls because recordings may include household members, neighbors, audio, or public space.
User context
Gabriel receives a person-detected alert at his back gate while away. A delivery was expected, but the event begins late and another camera clock appears to be three minutes out of sync.
Product problem
A resident needs to reconstruct an event and choose a proportionate response without treating detection labels as fact or broadly distributing sensitive footage.
Objective
Create event overview, synchronized review, classification, and restricted evidence-sharing for one camera incident.
What to design
Define the experience
Required experience
- Review the detection source, confidence, recording coverage, and device health
- Compare adjacent clips across cameras on one corrected timeline
- Classify the event and select a next action
- Trim, redact, and share only the evidence needed for a chosen recipient
Screens and states
- Event alert
- Multi-camera timeline
- Event assessment
- Evidence sharing review
Core user flow
Follow the critical path
- 01
Gabriel opens the alert and sees that person detected is an unverified label
- 02
He reviews clips from the gate and driveway with a visible clock-offset correction
- 03
He identifies the expected courier but notices a damaged package
- 04
He selects delivery issue and trims the clip to the relevant interval
- 05
He masks a neighboring window and shares an expiring link with the delivery company
Product rules
Requirements and constraints
Requirements
- Distinguish sensor events, detection labels, resident conclusions, and verified identities
- Expose recording gaps, clock offsets, retention deadlines, and device health
- Support frame-by-frame review without autoplaying audio
- Offer proportionate actions for familiar activity, uncertainty, property issues, and immediate danger
- Preview recipient, clip range, redactions, expiry, and download permission before sharing
Constraints
- The interface must not identify an unknown person as a criminal
- Local rules may limit audio capture and recording beyond property boundaries
- Original recordings must remain unchanged when an edited share copy is created
Reality check
States worth considering
Finish line
What to deliver
- Four responsive screens showing uncertain detection, synchronized review, and privacy-conscious sharing
