Law of Proximity
Elements placed nearer one another tend to be perceived as related, especially when the spacing pattern is consistent and other cues do not override it.

What it means
Spacing is relational: the gap within a group should be meaningfully smaller than the gap between groups. Equal margins everywhere erase the signal.
Proximity can clarify labels, actions, and sections without borders, while accidental closeness can attach an error, price, or button to the wrong object.

- Assuming source order cannot contradict visual grouping.

- When legal or safety scope needs an explicit boundary.
- When dynamic content can collapse the intended gap unpredictably.

Maintain logical source order and semantic associations; zoom, text resizing, and translated labels must not cause one group to appear attached to another.
On mobile: Recheck action scope after stacking columns and opening the on-screen keyboard.
Ethics and context
Use the principle to reduce unnecessary effort and improve comprehension. Validate the result with representative users rather than treating a general tendency as a universal instruction.
On desktop: Wide gaps can support section structure, but avoid spreading a label far from its value.
