Consent Based Event Profile Lens
Design an event networking tool that reveals a person's chosen professional profile only after they share a scannable badge code.
The brief
Understand the problem
Background
Augmented overlays can make conference introductions easier, but identifying people by face or gathering information from across the internet removes consent and creates serious privacy and safety risks.
User context
Aya attends a design conference and wants to share her current role, talk topics, and portfolio with people she chooses. She does not want strangers to identify her from a camera view.
Product problem
The useful interaction must be rebuilt around explicit badge sharing, limited fields, revocable access, and a visible distinction between verified event data and personal links.
Objective
Create profile setup, badge scan consent, lightweight camera overlay, connection request, and access revocation.
What to design
Define the experience
Required experience
- Selective event profile setup
- Explicit scan and reveal
- Connection request
- Profile access management
Screens and states
- Profile visibility setup
- Badge scanner
- Profile overlay
- Connection request
- Shared-access history
Core user flow
Follow the critical path
- 01
Aya chooses which fields to share at the event
- 02
She presents a rotating badge code
- 03
Another attendee scans it and sees the approved profile
- 04
Aya accepts a connection and later revokes portfolio access
Product rules
Requirements and constraints
Requirements
- Do not use face recognition
- Require an intentional code presentation
- Use short-lived scannable tokens
- Let every field have a visibility level
- Show and revoke past access
Constraints
- Event connectivity may be congested
- Screenshots cannot be fully prevented
- Profiles expire after the event unless both people connect
Reality check
States worth considering
Ready-to-use content
Mock data
Use this content to test hierarchy and realistic data states. You can expand it when the concept needs more depth.
Aya's shared profile
- Product designer at Fieldwork
- Open to discussing accessibility research
- Portfolio visible for 24 hours
- Email hidden until connection accepted
Finish line
What to deliver
- Five mobile screens
- A permission model for event-only, connections, and private fields

Visual resources
Use these as a starting constraint if you want one. They are not part of the required solution.
