Low Pressure Dating Plans

Design a dating experience for people who prefer interest-led introductions, slower conversation, and clearly bounded first meetings.

Mobile2 to 4 hours

The brief

Understand the problem

Background

Fast swipe interfaces reward immediate judgments and constant messaging. Some people would rather connect through a specific interest and agree on expectations before a first conversation or event.

User context

Mara enjoys comics and cooperative games but finds open-ended dating chat tiring. She wants to meet someone at a public convention event with a clear time limit and no expectation of sharing her phone number.

Product problem

The design must support a slower pace without labeling users, exposing niche interests publicly, or making a declined invitation socially costly.

Objective

Create profile boundaries, interest-led discovery, paced conversation, and a structured public first-meeting plan.

What to design

Define the experience

Required experience

  • Comfort and interest setup
  • Focused profile discovery
  • Conversation pacing controls
  • Bounded meeting invitation

Screens and states

  • Profile preferences
  • Interest group discovery
  • Conversation
  • Meeting proposal
  • Post-meeting controls

Core user flow

Follow the critical path

  1. 01

Mara selects interests and communication preferences

  2. 02

She finds someone attending the same public event

  3. 03

They exchange a limited set of prompts

  4. 04

They agree to meet for forty minutes at the venue cafe

Product rules

Requirements and constraints

Requirements

  • Let users set response pace and communication boundaries
  • Hide interests individually
  • Require mutual agreement for meetings
  • Keep personal contact details private
  • Offer block, report, and no-contact outcomes

Constraints

  • The app cannot diagnose or infer personality
  • Meetings must use public places
  • A slow reply must not be framed as rejection

Reality check

States worth considering

An invitation expires
One person wants a faster pace
A public event is canceled
Someone ignores a stated boundary

Ready-to-use content

Mock data

Use this content to test hierarchy and realistic data states. You can expand it when the concept needs more depth.

Meeting proposal

  • Indie Comics Expo cafe
  • Saturday at 14:30
  • Forty-minute meetup
  • Stay inside the ticketed public venue
  • Contact details remain hidden

Finish line

What to deliver

  • Four to five mobile screens
  • A conversation control that communicates pace without judgment

If you want more

Optional extensions

Add interest-hosted group dates
Design a trusted-contact check-in

Optional direction

Visual resources

Use these as a starting constraint if you want one. They are not part of the required solution.
