Verified Career Profile

Design a reusable career profile where candidates control which verified credentials are shared with an employer.

The brief

Understand the problem

Background

Resumes repeat the same claims across applications, while identity and credential checks often happen through opaque third parties. A portable profile can reduce duplication if candidates retain consent, expiry, and revocation controls.

User context

Keisha is applying for a laboratory role. She wants to share her degree and safety certification but not her home address, birth date, or unrelated employment records.

Product problem

Candidates need to present trusted evidence without turning a career profile into a universal identity file.

Objective

Create credential collection, selective sharing, employer view, and access revocation for a digital career profile.

What to design

Define the experience

Required experience

  • Add a credential from a verified issuer
  • Choose profile visibility and field-level sharing
  • Preview the employer's exact view
  • Revoke a link or replace an expired credential

Screens and states

  • Career profile
  • Credential detail
  • Share setup and preview
  • Access history

Core user flow

Follow the critical path

  1. 01

Keisha imports her degree and certification

  2. 02

She creates a role-specific share link with an expiry

  3. 03

She previews exactly what the employer can see

  4. 04

After the application closes, she revokes access

Product rules

Requirements and constraints

Requirements

  • Distinguish verified, self-reported, expired, and pending information
  • Provide field-level consent and expiring links
  • Record when a recipient opens shared data
  • Allow corrections and issuer disputes

Constraints

  • The product cannot require unrelated identity fields
  • Employers cannot retain live access after revocation
  • Verification status must name the issuer and date

Reality check

States worth considering

An issuer is unsupported
A candidate changes their name
A credential is revoked by its issuer
A shared link is forwarded

Finish line

What to deliver

  • Four responsive screens demonstrating selective disclosure and revocation

Optional direction

Visual resources

Use these as a starting constraint if you want one. They are not part of the required solution.
